The Rock Admits He’s Playing A DC Superhero With The “Power of Superman” For Warner Bros.

Uh, uh, uh, you didn't say the magic word.

Dwayne Johnson has seemingly revealed the DC Comics role he’s been after for so long.

Speaking with Total Film (full video below) the actor said, “DC and I have been talking for a couple of years now about trying to find whatever the right character is. Who is the right character? It’s also tricky too because I…there’s baggage and it’s good baggage that I have. You know, I am a certain way and my wiring is my wiring, my DNA is my DNA. And when I step on set and on screen I’m aware of what I’m able to bring to a character. And so is DC too so it’s not the easiest thing.”

It certainly has been quite a while since the rumors began linking Johnson to a Warner Bros. superhero project. But back in January of this year he confirmed he had met with Warner Bros. In February, everyone assumed it would be Green Lantern because he dared to tweet John Stewart’s name. In March he said they found the right character. Fast forward to this week, it seems one lucky journalist may have asked the right question.

“I will say this – there’s a character out there that we’re going to announce very soon that I’m gonna play,” he paused, seemingly trying to find the right words. “I’ll just say this – he has the power of Superman. And it’s not Green Lantern by the way…and believe me John Stewart I’ve been, he was a character who I wanted to play but there was already a version of Green Lantern and so now we’ve gone in a different direction.”

And then…

“But this character has the power of Superman, he can throw down,” he paused, “Just say the word. That’s all I’m gonna say.”

Well, so much for that big Comic-Con announcement I guess, Rock!

In all seriousness, from those last two sentences alone, everyone is assuming he’ll play Shazam (the character previously known as Captain Marvel for DC). It still hasn’t be confirmed but a report last month claimed Warner Bros. is placing a Shazam film in July of 2016 and the character turns from his civilian identity (child Billy Batson) to an adult Shazam by speaking a magic word. Some could argue he means Shazam’s villain counterpart Black Adam but at this point I doubt they’re giving a villain his own film and The Rock isn’t about to take second fiddle for something he’s wanted for so long.

Here’s the full interview if you want to give it a watch. What do you think? Did he really spill the beans or is he trying to throw us off the scent?
