The Marvel Animation panel at SDCC had some really cool announcements, including Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell, a movie with Doctor Strange and Hulk, a Secret Wars-themed season of Avengers, and Rocket & Groot, a new series of animation shorts around the two Guardians of the Galaxy directed by Arnaud Delord in conjunction with Passion Pictures.
They shared the rough animation test above, which gives us a look at the duo being their typical cute, but formidable selves. Marvel SVP of animation and family entertainment Court Lane said they’re doing 12 short animated adventures, calling it “a really unique project.”
We’re working with Passion Pictures and Arnaud Delord, who are the team behind the Gorillaz music videos…They’re going to be on Disney XD early next year, so look for that, and eventually we’ll be launching some other projects like this.
SVP of production and creative director at Marvel Animation Eric Randomski also added they’ve, “got some consulting and some designs from the great Skottie Young.” While there’s no release date at the moment, they did say the shorts would start airing early next year.
