We’ve heard a little bit of scuttlebutt about Helix, the upcoming thriller from Battlestar Galactica creator Ron Moore. And now we’ll finally get to see it.

Syfy has placed a 13-episode order for the show, which Deadline describes as being about “a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak.” (Is there going to be a dog in it or…?) Moore will co-produce, while Steven Maeda (Lost, Lie to Me) will step up as showrunner.

Says Syfy exec Mark Stern:

“With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life.”

And now it’s time for a confession: I have never watched BSG. I know, I know. It’s on the list, and I have several friends who love it more than life itself, but it just never happened. So. With Moore’s new series beginning production soon and slated to debut later this year, let me make a solemn pledge in front of anyone who happens to be reading this: By the time Helix premieres, I will have watched all of Battlestar Galactica.

So say we all.
