Yesterday, we let you know that True Blood and Hannibal actress, Rutina Wesley, has been cast in a multi-episode arc on The CW’s Arrow, but we didn’t know whom she’d be playing. Well now, we do!

Wesley will be playing the DC Comics character Liza Warner, aka Lady Cop, a character from the mid-1970s.

The good folks over at Blastr do us a solid and explain the history of the character:

In the comics, the character was the sole survivor of a murderer wearing cowboy boots (dubbed the “Killer-in-boots”) decorated with the skull and crossbones who killed her two college roommates; an event that ultimately motivated her to become a policewoman so that she could find the murderer. She was later promoted to Chief of Police in Ivy Town, and often helped the new Atom, Ryan Choi.

On Arrow, Liza Warner will be a member of an anti-vigilante task force that will have her work cut out for her with an increase in vigilante activity in Starling City in the upcoming season.

It’ll be interesting to see whether her having historically been involved in helping the Atom will have anything to do with Ray Palmer in the Arrow universe, or on the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow. Regardless it’s awesome to see such a great actress join the cast.

I just hope they never actually call her “Lady Cop,” ’cause that’s a dumb name.
