The Deadpool movie, as strange as it may seem with its final marketing push in full steam, happened largely because star Ryan Reynolds wanted it so badly. That should be an uplifting thought for fans who’d like to see an X-Force movie, though, because Reynolds is trying to make that happen, too.
Speaking to Filmstarts, Reynolds explained that with Deadpool‘s (anticipated) success, there’ll be room for Fox to explore the X-Men universe they hold all the rights to, and for him, that means X-Force is on the table. He told them (via Polygon), “In the future, if we’re doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we’re really going to explore the X-Men a lot, and maybe X-Force. X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in.”
So there you go. The guy who practically willed Deadpool into existence is on the case, everyone. It shouldn’t be that hard of a task to get done, either, with superhero movies exploding and every studio in existence looking to build a Marvel-type shared universe around the properties they own. X-Men kind of comes with that built in (as opposed to, say, Sony’s attempt to make it work with just Spider-Man, which would have eventually collapsed under its own weight even if Amazing Spider-Man 2 had been good).
Fox knows it, too, as we’ve already caught a glimpse of a New Mutants uniform in a still from Deadpool, and there’ve been rumblings of New Mutants stories to come from both film and TV, albeit in potentially limited form for the latter. With X-Force originally starting in New Mutants, it’s not that far fetched that Reynolds could make it happen as long as Deadpool puts butts in theater seats.
