‘Sakamoto Days’ Chapter 179 casts doubt on Sakamoto Taro’s status as the Hitman GOAT

We’d never seen Sakamoto Taro from Sakamoto Days struggle against any other assassin in the series until Chapter 179.

Maybe Taro isn’t the greatest hitman of all time just yet. Don’t get me wrong—Sakamoto Taro is exceptionally gifted, and he’d probably be one of the greatest assassins in the anime universe. Despite his knack for assassinations, Taro is still young, and he still has a lot to learn. I think Taro’s problem would be solved if John Wick and Agent 47 paid a visit to his universe, but that won’t be necessary. Takamura, the oldest assassin from the Order, has gone up against Taro in Chapter 179 of the manga.

Sakamoto Days Chapter 179 has been available since August 25, 2024. You can read the latest chapter of the manga at MangaPlus by Shueisha.

There’s nothing scarier than old assassins

We haven’t seen much of Takamura, but he’s the only one who was able to go toe-to-toe with Taro. In Chapter 179, Taro was seen walking away with a slight injury. Takamura’s experience as an older assassin also puts him ahead of Taro. None of us have ever seen another assassin use a sandblaster in place of a gun—and almost successfully kill Taro. Takamura wasn’t even taking the fight seriously, but Taro seemed worse for wear.

It’s not like a trip to the gym will make Taro stronger. He has to be on the verge of death for him to improve because he’s just too good at being an assassin. If he can survive fights against the other members of the Order, Taro will be unstoppable in claiming the JAA.
