Full Frontal with Samantha Bee is a late night show that actively strived to have a diverse writer’s room, so you can understand why they’re not too sympathetic when people say that it’s too difficult to hire women or people of color.
The show recently took Beyoncé’s phenomenal, life-changing Coachella performance to emphasize this point, when host Sam Bee said, “It’s actually not that f*cking hard to hire amazing women and people of color! Beyoncé, she found 10 black women who can play violin while dancing and rocking a bold lip.” Bee took to task the laziness behind the excuses, adding “Stop using, ‘We can’t find any!’ as an excuse when your workplace has only managed to hire one girl writer or black coder or vagina scientist. If you can’t do it, it’s because you don’t want to.”
To prove her point that “there are more than enough qualified people of color for whatever job your’e hiring no matter how obscure, even violin dancing,” Full Frontal embarked on a mission to hire 10 black people to do “the whitest thing we could think of off the top of our heads.” So what was the task? (Many come to mind.) It was a Jerry Seinfeld impression and according to Bee, it took a total of 3 hours and 45 minutes.
