Star Wars is an epic tale of good and evil, complex familial relationships, and the occasional comedy monologue by a foppish servile companion. Without the lightsabers and spaceships, it almost sounds kind of Shakespearean, doesn’t it? That’s what Quirk Books figured, and this trailer for their soon-to-be-released William Shakespeare’s Star Wars does a pretty good job of convincing us that an iambic pentameter retelling of the classic sci-fi film would work more than perfectly. Personally, all I needed to see was Darth Vader in an Elizabethan ruff to get me completely on board with this premise.
William Shakespeare’s Star Wars drops tomorrow on July 2nd, 2013, and is still available for preorder on Amazon. An excerpt of Act 1 can be found on the Quirk Books website for free.
