Nintendo‘s apparently abandoned making major announcements at, you know, trade conventions and the like. Who needs E3 when you can drop a whole mess of news at the end of January? Whatever the case, we’re still pretty excited that they’ve decided to drop all of this for whatever reason. It’s also probably a sign of the Wii U not exactly meeting expectations, but any day where Nintendo announces that Atlus and Intelligent Systems are developing a game based on Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem is a good day.
Details are scarce — as in practically nonexistent — but the fact remains that Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is apparently a thing which is in development for the Wii U, and that itself is an exciting announcement. This is all straight out of the Nintendo Direct announcement from this morning, which doesn’t really elaborate more than that. This “RPG mashup” could really be pretty much anything, and the trailer doesn’t help:
Yeah, okay, that’s certainly a thing. What kind of thing is it? Who knows! Even so, we’re tentatively excited.
