It’s just not right. Mario is short and stout, while Luigi is tall and slim. That’s how it’s always been. And yet, a bug in Super Mario Maker causes a “Luigi mushroom” to appear, and if Mario eats it, he’ll take on Luigi’s appearance.

The brothers look pretty similar as it is, of course; both have an affinity for mustaches and overalls and plumbing. But the pair’s always had two different body types. You can’t change that now, Nintendo! You can’t!

Of course, this is a bug, and it probably won’t end up in the final product. Still, it’s downright spooky to see Mario get taller while also slimming down like some sort of Willy Wonka fever dream. There are plenty of things about videogames that I’d love to change, but Mario’s stout shape sure isn’t one of them. If anything, I’d like to see more pot-bellies in games. This plumber’s plumpness is canon, damn it!

I mean, unless Nintendo plans on doing some sort of Thinner-esque horror version of Mario. Which … still no. Don’t do that, either.
