It’s been months since we’ve heard anything on the sluggish production for Zombieland 2, but now writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are giving up some new details on the much-delayed film. While appearing on AMC’s Geeking Out, the duo announced that they’re currently writing the script. “That is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now,” they said, according to io9.
The pair also wrote the script for Deadpool and are working on its sequel, so you could say they’re a bit preoccupied at the moment. But the talented writing team is forging ahead and seems to be excited about the follow up to the 2009 cult hit.
“We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited,” they added. That cast includes Jesse Eisenberg before Batman v Superman and The Social Network, Emma Stone before her race bending turn in Aloha, Abigail Breslin pre-Scream Queens, and Harrelson before True Detective.
In April, Sony revealed the logo for the new movie but did not divulge any additional information. Amazon also tried to get a TV series of the same name off the ground, but that (thankfully) has since been shut down.
Given its writers and the fact that the cast seems to be keen on returning, the sequel may actually turn out to be good. However, it’s difficult to get too invested after waiting for nearly a decade for another film but that’s just me. What do you all think? Are you into this?
