Were you as devastated as we were when you found out that the rumors of a Space Jam sequel starring Kobe Bryant were all fake? Then you, like us, probably had very questionable taste during the ’90s. Also, you’ll wish you’d been at the UCB theater in Los Angeles to see this surprise table read of Space Jam last month, because the footage from it is incredible.
Put together by comedians Sean O’Connor and podcaster Jensen Karp, the table read featured such notable comedians, actors, and writers as Nick Kroll, Ben Schwartz, Paul Scheer, Danielle Fishel, Seth Green, Shelby Gero, Melissa Stetten, Jerrod Carmichael, and Noah Garfinkel. They also got some actual basketball players like Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, who naturally none of us had ever heard of because we don’t get what those sports people are on about. We will say that Jordan puts out a stellar Charles Barkley impression, however — though Seth Green steals the spotlight with his unique portrayal of Bugs Bunny.
The end of the short highlight reel from Funny or Die! promises that more surprise table reads come to audiences in the near future. Any suggestions? I’d love to see Baby Geniuses, but maybe that’s just me.
