Disney’s remake of the romantic comedy Splash has found its leading stars in Channing Tatum, who will play Daryl Hannah’s 1984 role, and Jillian Bell, who will play Tom Hanks’ original role. Producer Brian Grazer also revealed a while back that the new film will be from the perspective of the merman.

When Grazer revealed that Splash was getting a remake and “there’s a movie star that’s going to be involved,” I don’t know what or who I was expectingbut I think lovelorn, let-me-be-part-of-your-world merman Channing Tatum has the potential to become one of my favorite Channing Tatums (right next to Space Werewolf Channing Tatum from Jupiter Ascending).

The two actors worked together previously on 22 Jump Street and I’m excited to see more of Bell, who Deadline reports hatched the pitch for the film. Marja-Lewis Ryan, who recently wrote and directed Liked is writing the script.

I’m not sure whether it’s because Tatum has this weird ability to win me over or because it’s hard for me to hate anything with mermaids, but I’m cautiously hopeful about this remake.
