Square Enix’s E3 Presentation Leaves Audiences Asking: Is This It?

Truly, the "where's the beef?" of gaming.

This was to be Square Enix’s first exhibition at E3 in three years, so needless to say, as the gatekeepers to many much-beloved franchises, people were hype to see what it was going to offer. Especially since there was news of upcoming projects like Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy. However, when it was all said and done, Square Enix had very little to offer.

Square Enix’s presentation included information on two new games called Babylon’s Fall and The Quiet Man, with no insight on what these games are gonna be about. What made the whole thing even worse is that the rest of the stuff shown in the presentation was already showcased yesterday at the Microsoft conference: Kingdom Hearts III, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Just Cause 4, Dragon Quest XI (which is already out in Japan) and Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit.

All old news at this point.

Kotaku‘s Jason Schreier described it as a “wet fart” and it’s hard to argue with that one. It’s fine if Square Enix didn’t have enough material to put on a unique 30-minutes presentation, but that doesn’t mean you should put old footage into it. Or hype it up for audiences and then don’t deliver.

Fans have already been waiting half their lives for Kingdom Hearts III—you push people way too far, Square Enix! I don’t feel like it is an entitlement to say that there should be just a little bit more effort. Maybe I’m wrong?

What did you guys think? Is the Kingdom Hearts trailer enough to keep you going?
