According to The Force Awakens star and J.J. Abrams’ lifelong friend Greg Grunberg (you know, the dude from Heroes), Star Wars: Episode VIII‘s script is very, very rad. So rad, in fact, that J.J. Abrams is a little jealous of director Rian Johnson.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Grunberg, who plays X-wing pilot Snap Wexley in TFA, revealed:

He read it and said something he never, ever says. He said: ‘It’s so good, I wish I were making it.’

He may have said something one time on Lost, with Damon [Lindelof, the co-creator], but I never hear him express regret like that.

Hmmmmm. Abrams will remain on as an executive producer for Episode VIII, but it’s interesting to hear that the opportunity to direct another movie might have once been on the table for him. Still, as much as I loved The Force Awakens, I’m incredibly excited to see what Rian Johnson will bring to the franchise (Colin Trevorrow, not so much). Besides, considering Episode VIII is slated to start shooting next month, I feel like Abrams would have needed a time turner to direct consecutive installments in the franchise.

What do you think, friends? Would you have liked to see Abrams direct another Star Wars movie? What do you hope for from the Episode VIII script?
