And So It Begins

Picture unrelated. Well, sort of related. Look, Asylum’s making a movie about aquatic vampires and it’s not called anything related to Vampirates.

Apparently the synopsis goes thusly:

A sister and brother team, prospecting for gold in an underwater cave, who accidentally disturb a colony of blood-sucking amphibious predators, aka sea vampires, who can function on land without having to wait for some freakish weather system to wreak havoc on the area — just dim-witted gold-prospecting siblings.

The name? Beast of the Bering Sea. It should be no wonder that Syfy is trying to recapture the success of Sharknado, as one of the channel’s most watched original premieres. And I have to say, amphibious cave vampires fighting, yes, Jonathan Lipnicki, the little kid from Jerry Maguire is not a bad start. But then there’s Stonados, a movie about a tornado full of boulders hitting Boston.

Ironically enough, Stonados, which now seems like a less lively Sharknado ripoff, was supposed to air before Sharknado. It had the misfortune, however, to be set in Boston with an airdate of April 27th, and Syfy thought it might be polite to delay it’s release in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing. Sharknado fans will be able to lay their eyes upon it on November 23rd.
