Céline Dion doesn’t want to hear your comments on her weight. Recently, the star began stepping out in new couture looks, and reports about the famed singer’s weight began to circulate. When asked about her weight loss, Dion had one thing to say: “Leave me alone.”
It brings up a bigger question about weight and celebrity: Is it any of your business what someone weighs? The simple answer is no, it isn’t. If it doesn’t directly affect you, then you shouldn’t let it concern you. Sure, there is a fear that someone who is too skinny could be suffering from an eating disorder, but commenting on it on the internet is not going to help Céline Dion, if that was the case.
It can also be tied back to all the unnecessary comments towards Bebe Rexha. The star recently opened up about how designers wouldn’t dress her because she didn’t fit their model size, which (a) isn’t a necessary comment to make about a woman and (b) just perpetuates the idea that all women must be the same size in order to be found beautiful and desirable by societal standards (typically male standards).
It’s 2019. Let’s just say this: The time has come for us to stop commenting on what women weigh and start focusing our time and energy on saving the planet.
