We shared the teaser trailer of Suffragette with you before, but this extended trailer gives a full introduction to Carey Mulligan’s character, a laundry woman who was born in a laundry (“Part-time washer at seven. Full time from when I was twelve.”) If this new trailer for the Carey Mulligan/Meryl Streep/a jillion other amazing actors film doesn’t give you goosebumps and make you want to challenge the status quo, I don’t know what’s wrong with you.
OK, maybe that’s a little excessive. But still. GOOSEBUMPS. What’s great is that it shows women were up for, and capable of, all sorts of resistance. These weren’t just flowery, non-destructive protests, y’all. These women did what they had to do to be counted.
And it seems insane that people once thought women didn’t have the brain capacity or the temperament for politics by simple virtue of their sex — until you read pretty much any internet, well, anything and realize there are people who still think that. And worse. Even after the achieving the vote for women.
“Never stop fighting.”
