Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a documentary that had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January this year, and was touted as a moving look at the life of the actor who played the man of steel on screen in four Superman films, along with an array of other roles that made him a beloved star, until tragedy struck. With the film’s early reviews being positive, fans were desperately waiting to watch it. And now, it is finally up for release and an official trailer has dropped.

The trailer begins with Reeve landing the role of a lifetime, playing Superman, but it majorly follows how his life was altered by the devastating horse riding accident in May 1995 that left him paralyzed. Through footage with a voiceover by Reeve himself and anecdotes recounted by his sons Matthew Reeve and Will Reeve, daughter Alexandra Reeve Givens, and actors Susan Sarandon and Glenn Close, filmmakers Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui put together how Christopher Reeve held on to hope and lived, and also became a champion and inspiration for people with quadriplegia like him.

The trailer also highlights two people: Christopher’s second wife Dana and friend, actor Robin Williams, who stood by him during this difficult time and gave him the courage to not only face the challenges that came with quadriplegia, but also become a staunch activist and advocate for disability rights so that others like him had a fighting chance at living a better life. Through the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, he contributed majorly to research for spinal injury treatments using embryonic stem cells.
