A petition on the Internet is usually about as useful to a cause as doing absolutely nothing, but sometimes they can affect real change. That was the case in Kelowna, British Columbia when a local radio station petitioned the Mayor’s office to declare today, April 4th, “International Talk Like Batman Day.” For some reason the Mayor agreed, and we now live in a world where “International Talk Like Batman Day” is a real thing. It’s not the holiday we deserve, but it’s the one we need right now.
The online petition was started by radio hosts Kevin Lim and Sonia Sidhu from 99.9 Sun FM in Kelowna, and according to a blog post on the station site they had hundreds of signatures. When they submitted the petition to Mayor Walter Gray, he used the opportunity to show his city that it’s not who he is underneath, but what he does that defines him, and he made a proclamation stating that today is the day where people around the world can talk like winded gravely-voiced vigilantes.
After The Dark Knight movies came out everyone quickly developed their own imitation of Christian Bale’s Batman voice, but in case you need some tips, Lim put together this video explaining how you can best talk like Batman:
You know who’s probably really excited for “International Talk Like Batman Day?” Abed Nadir.
Enjoy “International Talk Like Batman Day” everybody, but let’s remember the real reason for the season before it gets too commercial.
