Marvel.com announced earlier today that Daredevil showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez have been hired as showrunners on Marvel’s The Defenders. Daredevil‘s Drew Goddard will also serve as Executive Producer. The showrunners and Executive Producers said in a statement, “This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story. We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.”

Netflix VP of Original Content, Cindy Holland explained, “We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on Marvel’s Daredevil speaks for itself. They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us Marvel. With the inclusion of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the Defenders themselves.”

The series, which Daredevil‘s Charlie Cox has hinted will begin filming later this year, features the titular heroes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. In an interview with The Independent earlier this week at a Netflix event, Cox talked about when the series will begin filming, and howor if—it will tie into Daredevil‘s standalone series:

We don’t know if there’s going to be a [Daredevil] season three. I certainly don’t know […] What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one […] I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. What do you think of how The Defenders‘ creative team is shaping up so far?
