Marvel’s The Eternals Trailer Has Everyone Excited

GEMMA! THE STARK BROS! SALMA! ANGELINA! AHHHHH!

Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao is here and bringing us the first trailer for Marvel’s The Eternals. Hot off her win at the Oscars for Nomadland, Zhao is heading into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and getting our first real look at The Eternals has me so excited—not that I wasn’t excited before. I love Zhao and whatever world she’s building, but with this cast and the way the story plays out in this trailer? November can’t come soon enough!

I would like to personally thank Marvel for giving Richard Madden his gray streak. You have me and my best interests at heart.

Gemma Chan is Sersi. Kevin Feige has said that Sersi is, probably, the lead of the movie, which is exciting because Chan deserves her time to shine, but it’s also very clear that this is an ensemble film. And with a cast like this, it makes sense. Having Chan, Angelina Jolie, and Salma Hayek all in one movie together? How can you not want everyone to be in every scene together?

Richard Madden plays Ikaris, who is the “leader” of the Eternals and is also powerful, can fly, and shoots cosmic energy out of his eyes. He also seems to think he can lead the Avengers, to which the rest of the Eternals laugh in his face. Jolie is playing Thena. An incredible warrior, she can create any weapon out of cosmic energy.

The rest of the cast is filled with powerhouses, as well. And they have some amazing heroes coming our way that are changing the game for Marvel. Lauren Ridloff plays Makkari, who is the first deaf superhero in the MCU, and Brian Tyree Henry is playing Phatos, the first openly gay hero. From there, we have Don Lee, who is playing Gilgamesh, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Barry Keoghan as Druig, and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman.

This trailer is so beautifully Zhao, with sweeping landscapes and scenic settings, that it just feels like we’re in a completely different world, and I can’t wait to learn more of these characters throughout the movie. It does delight me to see the Stark brothers together again so I can’t wait to cry over and over again and just keep saying “I know.”

What’s interesting about the Eternals in the comics is that they are connected to the Avengers, but in this movie, they seem to be completely hidden away and helping when they are needed, just in secret. So does that mean that they were there for past events with our favorite Marvel heroes? Or are they just realizing that they can’t hide in the shadows forever, especially with what happened with Thanos? Who knows? But having the Eternals in action now is certainly going to make things interesting for the now-leaderless Avengers.

Zhao is a brilliant filmmaker, and getting to see her tackle Marvel is going to be exciting, and I truly can’t wait. November 5th cannot come soon enough!
