Have you guys heard of The Force Awakens? Turns out, it made a record-breaking $57 million yesterday in the U.S.. Whoa! Sounds like a big deal!

According to Variety, Force Awakens has already made $57 million in Thursday night showings alone, roundly beating previous Thursday-night preview record-holder Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The movie has also already broken IMAX records; The Hollywood Reporter reports that Force Awakens earned “$5.7 million from 391 screens, nearly doubling the previous record of $3 million.” Box office observers note that Force Awakens is also on target to pass current domestic debut record holder, Jurassic World. (I mean, duh. Jedi > dinosaurs, although Jedi Dinosaurs > everything.)

For what it’s worth, Rentrak’s exit poll service, PostTrak, says the film has had an approximately 71% male audience so far. Box office observers expect the audience to diversify over opening weekend.
