No doubt you’ve seen it at this point–Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s most famous outfit to date. It consists of, in his words, “a turtleneck, mom jeans” and a fanny pack–and in a scene from his upcoming movie Central Intelligence, he tries to take back the look of the fanny pack, spoofing the photo of himself in that outfit that has lasted since it was originally taken when he was in his twenties.
In an interview on The Graham Norton Show, Johnson said he definitely embraces the photo now for its ridiculousness, but at the time the picture was snapped he totally thought the look was in. Either way, it’s been spoofed the world over by various celebrities and fans, including Seth Rogen and Johnson’s couchmates on Norton, Indepdendence Day: Resurgence co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum:
Johnson later shared a side-by-side of the original photo and the Hemsworth/Goldblum tribute, and he’s definitely getting a kick out of the whole thing:
Hey, who’s to say the “turtle neck/fanny pack” swag hasn’t made a comeback already–or won’t in the near future? Fashion does tend to cycle back around to revisit old trends, after all, but most of us probably won’t be using a tissue to prop up our elbow on a dirty wall.
