Things We Saw Today: Black Panther Crosses $1 Billion at Global Box Office

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther continues to soar at the box office. After just 26 days in theaters, and having only opened in the massive Chinese market this weekend, it crossed yet another milestone: $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales. It is the fifth Marvel film to pass $1 billion, joining The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: Civil War. You’ll notice it’s also the only one of those five that’s an origin movie.   • The Muse wrote up a history of the inclusion rider, which Frances McDormand advocated for in her Oscars acceptance speech.
  • Erica Henderson is leaving Squirrel Girl in order to pursue creator-owned projects. She’ll still be doing covers, and the series isn’t ending, but she wrote that “three years is a long time and I’d like to be able to branch out at this point.” (via The Beat)
  • The stars of Everything Sucks! spoke about the importance of the show’s LGBTQ representation. “There’s barely any representation for girlfriends in high school,” said star Peyton Kennedy. “There’s a bit of representation in older generations, but I think for the teens who are watching it who identify with these characters, they will be able to feel comfort and hopefully acceptance at the end of the show.” (via Teen Vogue)
