However, she kept her passion for sports through handcycling and became a world champion and silver medalist in the 2008 Paralympic Games. A tragedy from another cyclist crashing into her later on actually turned into a miracle. “During her stint in rehab, van der Vorst suddenly started regained feeling in her legs. It wasn’t long before she was back on her feet for the first time in 13 years.”
