Din and Cobb standing side by side in the Mandalorian

Fan’s Wish for a Timothy Olyphant/Pedro Pascal Ship in ‘Our Flag Means Death’ Is Now My Dream

I don’t know what it is about Timothy Olyphant and Pedro Pascal, but the two have proven to me twice now that they have some of the most electric chemistry I have seen onscreen, and one of them is wearing a full helmet while they do it! The two play Din Djarin and Cobb Vanth in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Their relationship is one that was based on information to start and slowly grew into a friendship by the time we saw them together in Book of Boba Fett.

But the issue there is that we rarely get to see them together at all, and we really don’t get to see Pedro Pascal’s face looking longingly at Timothy Olyphant’s. (We can pretend they do because I am a Din/Cobb shipper and I have no qualms about it.) So, any time someone suggests that the two do another project together, I’m usually right on board.

Right now, the talk of the town is Our Flag Means Death—more specifically, renewing it for a second season and who will be involved in it. Our Flag Means Death is a show created by David Jenkins that asks us the question: What if Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet were in love with each other? Set in 1717, the series takes us through the Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnet’s (Rhys Darby) journey to becoming the captain of the Revenge, but when Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) becomes obsessed with Bonnet’s tactics as a pirate, the two join forces to try to learn from one another.

What happens is that Bonnet and Blackbeard find love in each other, and we leave the season with the two at odds, but not from anything the other did. (Technically, Bonnet did go back to his real life, but he then faked his death to go and find Blackbeard again.) Blackbeard and Stede are one of three queer relationships on the show, and it is being praised for its inclusivity and casting choices around the fandom. So, it isn’t surprising that fans are now throwing their choices in for other pirates to join our faves.

Like Twitter user Timothydilfant suggesting that Olyphant and Pascal join the second season as boyfriends.

I hope that Timothy Olyphant’s character, much like Blackbeard, wears a little crop top. There are plenty of well-known pirates that the two could be. Olyphant could be Bartholomew Roberts (also known as Black Bart) and maybe Pedro Pascal can play William Kidd (even though technically he was executed in 1701). My point being: There’s no reason that these two couldn’t be in season 2 of Our Flag Means Death.

Sure this is wishful thinking, but that’s also what Our Flag Means Death is all about. Our Kaila Hale-Stern pointed out how the show delivered a fatal blow to queerbaiting and that has now ushered in a world of possibilities for fans of the series. So yes, I selfishly want Olyphant and Pascal on the show to kiss, because I want them to kiss in Star Wars and I don’t think that will happen, but hey, we can all dream, right?

Anyway, Timothy Olyphant and Pedro Pascal would make great pirates and great additions to season 2 of Our Flag Means Death.
