I’m not even going to try to hide my excitement about Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters, which heads to Netflix on December 23.  The story follows Jim Lake Jr. a teenager who comes across a magical amulet which gives him the title of Trollhunter. As such, he’s introduced to a secret society of trolls who are living beneath his hometown of Arcadia and it’s up to him to protect them in an ancient battle of good versus evil. But if he’s going to save the world, it’s gotta wait until after gym class.
In honor of the big premiere, Netflix released a new clip which shows Jim suiting up for the first time. It’s bittersweet hearing Anton Yelchin’s voice knowing he tragically died earlier this year but this looks awesome and I cannot wait to binge the whole thing.
In addition to Yelchin, Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman, Amy Landecker and Steven Yeun all lend their voices to the project. The only downfall to this is that while it looks very cool, it’s not very diverse which points to a bigger problem in the world of animation. Nonetheless, the series will be executive produced by Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow), Rodrigo Blaas (animator for Up, Brave, WALL•E), Christina Steinberg (Rise of the Guardians) and Chad Hammes (Dragons: Race to the Edge).
The first two episodes premiered exclusively at New York Comic Con, but the whole series will be available on December 23. Will you see it?
