This Is What ‘Brat Summer’ Is All About

Brat Summer is a thing. Just accept it. But if you’re wondering what Brat Summer actually is, then you’ve come to the right place, especially since we all should be living our best brat lives.

Imagine your preppy friend who loved Barbie summer now has to transform into what I would deem an internet gremlin hot girl. That’s Brat Summer. It’s like green, it’s darker, and it is filled with TikTok dances that have even the cast of Twisters joining in. Inspired by the Charli XCX album Brat, the summer is all about living that grungy and darker early ’00s fashion.

It is less about the actuality of it and more about the vibe of Brat Summer. It is very much another millennial thing we can cling to. Yes, Gen Z, Brat Summer is actually for the millennials (you can join in, though). The album explores a lot of millennial issues all at the same time, and it has left me crying more than once. My favorite song is “I Think About It All The Time” because ouch.

But if you want to embody Brat Summer to the fullest, you’ll need a few things. With these elements, you too can be your best bratty self!

Here are the tools for the best Brat Summer

Lime green is a must to embody the Charli XCX feel. This is because the album is that color with a simple font reading “brat.” The other essentials include darker vibes, small sunglasses, and an energy that says if you don’t get your way, you will make it everyone else’s problem. That’s what makes this summer so fun and different from Barbie summer.

It’d be easy to say that Brat Summer is just about the dancing, but it really is about embodying the feel that many of us millennials experience daily. The world is crashing down on us, but we’re going to look cute and sassy when we do it. That’s the best way to describe Brat Summer.
