So Where Exactly Can You Watch ‘Doctor Who’ Online?

Doctor Who is one of the longest-running shows in the world and one that fans love to revisit, but that can become a problem when we’re not sure where the show is streaming or whether or not we’ll be able to watch new episodes easily. As a fan of the franchise who remembers the dark ages (back when the show would air in the United States weeks after it aired in the U.K.), it has been a long, uphill battle to finally get Doctor Who on streaming services in a way that fans can all enjoy together.

Now, as we’re gearing up to head into the 60th anniversary special, as well as a new era of the show with Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, fans might want to catch up with the series that they’ve loved for over 50 years (or maybe jump into it for the first time). And it is now relatively easy to watch the show, but it’s still a journey to watch all of Doctor Who so let’s talk about where you can currently watch the series.

Where to watch Doctor Who now

Luckily for fans, the series has landed on HBO Max and you can watch Doctor Who starting with the new Who era from 2005. Beginning with Christopher Eccleston and going through David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and into Jodie Whittaker, the series’ next movie is taking us into a new adventure with Gatwa, but we still have some of Whittaker’s journey left.

So, in preparation for the return of showrunner Russell T. Davies (after departing with David Tennant in 2009) with Gatwa’s run as the Doctor, you can start the series from the beginning of the reboot. There are places to watch the older seasons of the show, like BritBox, but it is also up to each individual fan on where they want to start their Doctor Who-watching journey.

Will Doctor Who be on Disney+?

According to Bloomberg, Disney is reportedly in talks to stream new episodes of the series beginning with Ncuti Gatwa’s run as the Doctor. Whether that means the entire series will end up on the platform remains to be seen, and there’s nothing set in stone quite yet. We have time yet to figure out where the new episodes of the series are going.

For now, you can still watch previous seasons of Doctor Who on HBO Max, and there’s plenty of time to rewatch the series or catch up before Jodie Whittaker departs and we have a new era of Doctor Who with the 60th anniversary special and Ncuti Gatwa. Until then, hopefully we’ll figure out where the show will live permanently!
