The Foo Fighters have given the world so much. Since 1994, the Seattle-formed rock band has been putting out great music for the ages. In 2021, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame despite it being their first year of eligibility for the honor. Now, the Foo Fighters have crossed from music to movies with their first feature-length film.
Studio 666, a horror-comedy, blends reality with fiction. The plot focuses on a fictional version of the Foo Fighters recording their tenth album in Encino, California. As the band records, they find the house harbors more than a recording studio. It also comes conveniently equipped with a portal to Hell. The supernatural forces possess leader singer Dave Grohl while he tries to create another epic album.
Interestingly, Grohl came up with the story after the band recorded their actual tenth album, Medicine at Midnight. The old mansion where they made the album creeped the band out during their time there. Weird sounds and events unnerved them, inspiring Studio 666. Supposedly, they filmed some of the real-life scary happenings but could not share them because of a non-disclosure agreement with the homeowner.
Where can you watch?
Studio 666 premiers only in theaters on February 25, 2022. In the meantime, check out the official trailer above.
The Foo Fighters—Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee—all play themselves in the upcoming film. It also features Whitney Cummings, Will Forte, and Leslie Grossman, plus a special cameo by Lionel Richie. Honestly, even if the movie plays out like a long music video, it should be a fun time, knowing the band’s history with oddball music videos. My Dave Grohl votive candle and I are ready for it.
