What is Star Trek: Strange New Worlds?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery, is based on the years when Captain Christopher Pike sat astride the captain’s chair of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The main cast will include fan favorites such as Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. Headlines were also made recently when it was announced that actress Christina Chong would be playing a character named La’an Noonien-Singh, a woman with a confirmed connection to the iconic Trek villain Khan.
Who is Paul Wesley playing?
Paul Wesley (known for his role as Stefan Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries) has joined the cast of season two of Paramount+’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as the one and only James T. Kirk! The iconic role was originated by William Shatner in Star Trek: The Original Series back in 1966 (and the subsequent films), and has also been played by Chris Pine in J.J. Abrams’ mid 2000s Star Trek trilogy.
When asked about Paul Wesley joining Strange New Worlds for its second season, the executive producing team of Alexander Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, and Henry Alonso Myers said:
“Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence and a welcome key addition to the show. Like all of us, he is a life-long Star Trek fan and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role.”
