On Star Wars Day, Disney celebrated by debuting a brand new trailer for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 27, 2022, and will see the return of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan. Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse will also be reprising their roles as Anakin Skywalker, Owen Lars, and Beru Lars, respectively.
By now, it is common knowledge that the Inquisitors are going to be a central plot point in the series. The Order of Inquisitors is a group of force-sensitives that work for the Galactic Empire. Their task is to hunt down any Jedi who survived Order 66, as well as to retrieve any force-sensitive children. In Obi-Wan Kenobi, Obi-Wan is exiled in Tatooine—where he watches over a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely). With the Inquisitors on the loose, though, Obi-Wan will likely have to face them to protect Luke.
So far, we’ve seen Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor and Moses Ingram as the Third Sister/Reva. Disney’s latest trailer, though, introduced us to another Inquisitor—Sung Kang’s Fifth Brother. The Fast & Furious actor can be seen in multiple shots alongside the other Inquisitors. Similar to the Grand Inquisitor, the Fifth Brother has a history in Star Wars‘ animated projects, but Obi-Wan Kenobi will mark his live-action debut. For those who aren’t familiar with the Fifth Brother, here’s a breakdown of the character.
Who is the Fifth Brother?
The Fifth Brother is a force to be reckoned with. This gray humanoid is of an unknown species with a very strong build. He wields the same dual-bladed lightsaber as the Grand Inquisitor and lost one of his hands while training with Darth Vader. The Fifth Brother is very amoral and may be even more bloodthirsty than the Grand Inquisitor. He seems to hunt Jedi for the sheer enjoyment of it and is a sadistic, ruthless killer. Before being inducted into the Order of Inquisitors, the Fifth Brother was a Jedi who survived Order 66. It is unknown what caused his turn to the dark side.
After the Grand Inquisitor’s death, the Fifth Brother became one of the main villains in Stars Wars Rebels. He first made his appearance in season 2, episode 4, “Relics of the Old Republic,” where he is dispatched by Darth Vader under Emperor Palpatine’s orders to find the Ghost Crew. While the Fifth Brother has multiple face-offs with Ezra, Kanan Jarrus, and other members of the Ghost Crew, he fails to defeat or capture them.
The Fifth Brother made his final appearance in “Twilight of the Apprentice” where he accompanies the Eighth Brother and Seventh Sister to the planet Malachor. The crew was on a mission to retrieve a lost Sith Holocron, but were intercepted by the Ghost Crew. In the ensuing battle, the Fifth Brother is killed by former Sith apprentice Darth Maul. The Seventh Sister also perishes in the battle. Since Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place before Star Wars Rebels, though, the Fifth Brother will still be very much alive in the series, and we will get to see more of his doings prior to his stint on the animated show.
