Why Is Kim Kardashian Legitimizing Ivanka Trump?

Don't spend time with bad people!

Like it or not, Kim Kardashian is as ingrained into American pop culture in 2023 as the Big Mac. This means that she has social capital and influence that very few people have. So why did she invite Ivanka Trump to her birthday party?!

I’m a big believer in the old saying: You are the company you keep. This means if I were ever to be in the same room as former First Enabler, I mean Daughter, I would loudly proclaim, “feets don’t fail me now,” and skitter out of that room so fast while screaming out loud incomprehensible declarations directed in Trump’s general way.

I certainly would not invite her to a special occasion unless that special occasion was an indictment party of Ivanka Trump, and even then, I would probably not want to be in the same room as her. Unlike Kim Kardashian, who not only invited Trump, but posted pictures with her on her Instagram. Scroll to the fifth picture to see for yourself:

No! This is bad, Kim K.! Bad!

Ivanka Trump is a feckless sycophant to her father, who absolutely played a part in enabling his administration’s horrific policies and lining her own pockets in the process. Now that it finally seems like the tides might actually be turning on Trump, it is everyone’s duty not to allow Ivanka Trump to pretend she had no part in what her father sowed. Bring back shame! Bring back using shame as a public tool. We’re all too comfortable with the worst people being among us at present.

Honestly, I’ve always been ambivalent towards the Kardashians. The fact they’re famous for being famous doesn’t infuriate me like it does some people. I think there are many valid arguments for explaining why they’re the worst, but I generally find them easy to ignore so I don’t spend too much time thinking about them.

However, inviting Ivanka Trump as if she’s a regular vapid celebrity to your birthday party is not acceptable. This is not some reality star. This is a woman who has caused real harm to our society, and this is not OK.

What I don’t understand is that Kardashian and Trump have been friends for a while, so why promote her to birthday party guest now? The optics are bad! Per W:

Kim and Ivanka had crossed paths on prior occasions, including at the Met Gala and other society shindigs. At one point, Kardashian even reportedly considered buying the Kushner’s old Manhattan apartment. In a 2020 profile in the New York Times, Kim identified Ivanka as “a friend.” But the pair never seemed to be quite “invited-to-the-birthday-party” close—until now.

This is a hill I’m willing to die on. Trump made her choice to align herself with her morally corrupt father’s policies and administration. She absolutely should be ostracized publicly as a result. Yes, that means she doesn’t get fun birthday party invites from celebrities. It also means the public should name and shame her wherever she goes. She metaphorically made her bed. We should all ensure she lies in it now.
