“What has happened in the world, that normal now passes as excellence? When did we lower our standards?”
The first trailer for Widows, the new thriller from director Steven McQueen (12 Years a Slave) and co-writer Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) is here, and it looks absolutely fantastic. Based on the British drama of the same name from the 80s (written by crime writer Lynda La Plante), the film begins as a familiar heist movie. Four men, two played by action movie regulars Jon Bernthal and Liam Neeson, embark on an armed robbery.
However, they are killed and the real protagonists of the story emerge: their widows. The description reads:
“‘Widows’ is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar® winner Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. ‘Widows’ also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry.”
Widows comes to theaters November 16th. It looks phenomenal, and I can’t wait! Are you going to check it out?
