Will Arnett’s Peter Pan Is the Big Bad in ‘Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers’ Trailer

Fans of the iconic 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit will find a lot to love in the new trailer for Disney+’s Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers. The live-action/animation hybrid film clearly takes inspiration from Robert Zemeckis’s classic, from the massive cast of recognizable cartoon characters to the central duo solving a mystery. The film finds Chip (John Mulaney) and Dale (Andy Samberg) estranged, with the former selling insurance and the latter working the convention circuit after getting CGI plastic surgery. But when cartoons start going missing, the pair are forced to team up once more to solve the crime.

There’s a treasure trove of details in the trailer, with multiple legacy Disney characters making an appearance. Seth Rogen does double duty as a badly CGI’d viking facing off against his version of Pumbaa from The Lion King. We also get a glimpse at the potential Big Bad of the film: an over the hill Peter Pan voiced by Will Arnett (BoJack Horseman, The LEGO Batman Movie). We see an ominous room of toon parts bagged and collected – is someone trafficking in toon organs? Are these discarded parts from toons that have had the CGI surgery? Talk about a dark timeline.

According to closed captioning, Arnett’s character is named “Mean Dean”, so he may be former Peter Pan performer or a Lost Boy gone rogue? We do know for certain that he harbors no love for the rescue rangers, as he declares “I was always more of an ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks person.” The trailer leaves us with plenty of questions, and more than enough cartoon cameos. Whatever the film has in store for us, we’re no doubt getting plenty of nostalgia from the cartoons of our past. And who doesn’t love a trip down memory lane?
