The season finale of our favorite patriotic puncher, Peacemaker, is looming on HBO Max. Our band of misfits is licking their wounds and regrouping before trying to track down the “cow” that feeds the Butterfly invasion. There were several close calls in their showdown with the White Dragon (Peacemaker’s racist shithead father), including Vigilante almost blowing himself up, and Eagly (Eagly!!) getting taken out. Thankfully, Eagly recovered (I’m fine with Gunn killing off almost every character but not Eagly!) and gave a distraught Peacemaker an eagle hug. But, questions of whether or not the show would return for a second season have been looming since the show premiered with a … well with such a bang.
Creator James Gunn has been hinting and teasing that Peacemaker would return for a second season for weeks now, even telling Deadline that “The show is doing extraordinarily well, and we’re excited, we all like doing it, we just need to cross some Ts and dot some Is, which is basically me.” Gunn has also mentioned a second The Suicide Squad spin-off show that is reportedly in the works saying “We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe … I can’t quite say. I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker, it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.”
He also piqued fans of the show’s interest with a social media post using the words “season finale” instead of “series finale,” leading fans to assume this meant that a second season was indeed coming.
So, will there be a Peacemaker season 2?
Yes! James Gunn announced via his social media that Peacemaker will officially be returning for a second season!
This means that we will get to see more of our favorite glam rock loving beefy boy and his crew (depending on how many of them survive the finale!) and will have some downtime to practice the opening credits choreo so that we can all celebrate its return in the way the good lord intended. With dance!
