From the people who brought you Viewtiful Joe, Wonderful 101 is a tokusatsu inspired superhero action game set to release later next month for the Wii U. It’s also pretty bonkers. Like, really bonkers. I’m still not totally sure what I just watched.
The story is pretty standard — Earth is attacked by space invaders and a number of citizens are given superpowers to fight back. Along the way you can recruit more citizens who all unite together Voltron-style in a bunch of different objects to defeat giant monsters. That’s the part where it gets less standard but way more awesome.
I don’t know about you, but I had a real hard time paying attention to anything the announcer was saying in the seven minute Director’s Edition trailer because I kept thinking, “That’s totally Fenris from Dragon Age II.” It was very distracting. Still, the gameplay itself looks ridiculous kinds of fun, so I can probably get over it.
As of now, the official release date for Wonderful 101 is September 15th for North America — though it’s changed a few times already. Still, at least we now have a demo in the eShop and a trailer to lust over.

- The Wonderful 101 director doesn’t even known a Wii U
- Here’s what we learned at that Nintendo Direct presentation
