If you’re a Star Wars fan and were a child once (OK, and you’re currently about 30 or over), you’ve probably got some fond memories of playing the Star Wars: X-Wing series PC games. You might’ve even picked them up on Steam, though you probably found the original graphics a bit jarring compared to how awesome they were in your mind. Well, there’s a mod to help with that.

The XWVM mod will be free to anyone who owns a copy of the original game, including the GOG and Steam “Special Edition” versions, though a release date hasn’t yet been announced. Not only is it a pretty impressive visual update (check out the original for comparison), but the developers’ blog on Mod DB explains that the graphics in the video aren’t yet the final version. As for additional updates to the game beyond giving it a fresh coat of paint, there’s nothing planned so far, but “new ships, Tours of Duty, or game modes” are “something that could be done at a later stage,” and they have “big plans” for the future.
