FX’s X-Men spinoff is going big. The Hollywood Reporter says that they’ve brought on Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, and Jean Smart to star in the spinoff, titled Legion. The show focuses on David Haller, son of Charles Xavier (you know, Professor X) and Gabrielle Haller. He finds out he’s a mutant when he realizes that the voices he hears and the visions in his head aren’t just made up—they could very well be real.
David Haller is also known as Legion (hence the title… ha), and made his first appearance in a comic book in New Mutants number 25, way back in March 1985. Stevens will be playing Haller, with Plaza playing Haller’s friend, Lenny, “who, despite a life of drugs and alcohol abuse, knows that any day now her life is going to turn around—which gives Lenny the likeable energy of the impossible optimist despite her rough demeanor,” according to THR.
Smart will play Melanie, a “demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods.” Additionally, you may remember that Rachel Keller was announced as the female lead, Syd, for the show early last month.
It looks like the cast is really coming together and might be incredibly strong for this FX show. Personally speaking, I enjoy Plaza’s work, and would totally give this show a shot based on her addition alone.
What do you think? Will you be tuning in?
